Under the Sea
Our big question this term is ‘Why are our seas and oceans so special?'. We will explore the vast oceans on Earth, comparing their conditions and what can be found in each location. We will discover shipwrecks and how scientists have been able to dive to the depths of the oceans. How to protect our seas and oceans will also be a key focus.
In Literacy, we will begin with a story writing unit, linked to 'The Rainbow Fish'. Through Talk for Writing, we will learn a story and use the skills we acquire to write our own. We will then look at poetry.
In Maths, we will start by revisiting subtraction and then move onto multiplication and division. These will involve solving one step problems using pictorial representations and arrays. After that, we will then look at measures.
In Forest School and Science, we will be looking at seasonal change. Also in Science, we will be learning about animals and their features.
In Art, we will be exploring the use of textiles to create designs inspired by oceans.
How to help at home
Each week children will come home with sound button sheets which they can complete each day. It would also be useful to continue practising number bonds between 5 and 10, looking at subtraction facts as well as addition.
Please continue to read at least 5 times each week along with incidental reading of signs, labels, instructions etc.
As the weather is turning colder, please can children have a tracksuit top and bottoms included in their PE bag for outdoor PE.
