Formula One - Stem Day
The children at Buckingham Primary School all enjoyed a STEM day on Tuesday this week and learnt about the engineering behind Formula 1.
The Government has recognised a potential short fall in the number of engineers needed for the future, and opportunities for children to be immersed in STEM activities (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) is a priority for the school.
All the children spent time exploring the differences between a visiting F1 car and average family car, and Dan Carpenter from Force India, F1, spent time with the pupils exploring the technicalities of F1. Children were also involved in putting together real F1 car components and designing their own racing car.
One parent shared their child’s response to the day: “It was absolutely incredible, and came away feeling 'enlightened' and 'inspired' (her words!). She is considering a career in engineering...there is nothing more I can say that will show just how amazing the experience was for her".
