Many children look forward to their art lesson each week and teachers plan to ensure that children gain maximum enjoyment and satisfaction from this subject, as well as developing the important skills necessary within a creative context. The children use sketchbooks on a regular basis to record their ideas in a highly visual way before producing work of a high standard. A clear progression of skills, in both 2D and 3D work, is ensured by close monitoring by experienced teachers.
Children are encouraged to evaluate their own and others work, suggesting improvements as a piece develops.
The children enjoy annual Art Days when their work is celebrated throughout the whole school. The subject of their pictures usually follows that term’s ‘Big Idea’ theme and shows the influence of well-known artists, who the children study in depth to improve their own practise.
Their artwork is displayed and celebrated around the school and children are encouraged to enter local and national art competitions.
